Lionel Richie – Coming Home Tour

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

I am a huge fan of Lionel Richie and have been buying and listening to his music for at least 20 years. Hits like All Night Long, Stuck on You, Hello, and Brick House, (the list goes on and on) are just classics that never date. The TV show ‘An Audience with Lionel Richie’ back in December was fantastic and he had everyone rocking in the aisles. In February he performed ‘Hello’ at the Grammies which just brought the house down and his album Coming Home was officially certified Gold!

I am thrilled to say that Lionel will be at London’s Wembley Arena for his new ‘Coming Home Tour 2007’ on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th March, Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th May. For tickets ring 0870 163 1782, 0871 230 2620 or 0870 444 5556 or online from www.ticketmaster.co.uk and cost from £35.00 to £75.00. See you there!

La Boheme at the Coliseum

Friday, March 9th, 2007

602331_opera__.jpgThe English National opera is currently showing Puccini’s la Boheme. Whether you’re an experienced opera goer or its your first time this production is a must see. If this is your first opera, la Boheme is one of the most accessible operas considered as one of the “three or four most popular operas in the repertory” (Groos and Parker, xi), Its dramatic plot which centres around four characters is easy to follow and very moving. You’ll be familiar with many of the aria’s which have been used time and again in films and TV. At the English National opera all works are sung in English and the acoustics are very good so the words can be heard clearly from just about everywhere in the auditorium.

The attraction of this production for the more experienced opera goer is a chance to see the fantastic Mary Plaza or young talent, Lee Bisset-who is part of the eno’s young singers programme – play the role of Mimi, as well as experiencing Xian Zhang’s London conducting debut. If you are a student, the best way to get a discounted ticket is to turn up three hours before the show when you will be able to purchase the best avaible seats for £10-30. Otherwise tickets prices range from 15-83 pounds. Visit www.eno.org for more information and to book in advance.

Pineapple Dance Studio

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

For ages I have been searching for a dance studio that offers a funkier range of classes such as break-dance, hip hop and basically any kind of dance you see in music videos. Unfortunately there’s not much going on in my area but I have found a dance school in Covent Garden who offers loads of classes in this field.

The studio is called Pineapple Dance Studio and is owned by the same company that produce the Pineapple clothing range. Classes range from traditional dances such as ballet and tap to newer styles like hip hop, jazz and cheerleading.

On Sunday April 8th Pineapple Dance are having an open day and many of there classes will be free. No booking is required – you just turn up and see what’s on; everyone in the classes will be new so you don’t have to worry about looking bad! Apparently there are Easter Eggs on offer as well.

For more information about the open day or for their class timetable check out the Pineapple website.

Fame Returns To The West End 8th May

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

As a young girl I remember going to see Fame and loving every second of it – I can still remember the song, “FAME, I’m gonna live forever, I’m gonna learn how to fly…HIGH!” – or something like that anyway! The musical is returning to the West End on 8th May and this is definitely on my list of things to do this summer. Bookings are being taken up until 1st September.

Fame is a musical production following a group of young students in their quest for success, and also their struggles with relationships and teenage romance. Set in New York’s High School for the Performing Arts, the musical will make you want to jump up on stage with them and sing your heart out! Box Office prices are £17.50 – £55.00.
