Trees for Cities Tree-Athlon
Friday, September 7th, 2007
While browsing Green Events this morning I came across an article that caught my attention. Trees for cities are holding a Tree-Athlon in Battersea Park to raise money for the planting and care of thousands of trees. The same event was held in 2005 and 2006 and both were successful and popular with the public.
Trees for cities is a charity and have organised a 5km run and a ‘tree wish’ - I’m intrigued to find out more about this! There will also be a fashion swap; everyone takes a clean item of clothing that they no longer need and takes something home that they do need, all left over clothes are donated to TRAID (Textile Recycling for Aid and International Development). The event will take place on Saturday 15th September from 10am onwards and will be a great way for all you tree lovers out there to donate to the cause.
For more information about the event visit www.tree-athlon.org.

If you’re at a loose end on 4th or 5th August, take a trip to London’s Regent’s Park for the ‘Innocent Village Fête’. Indulge in a bit of dancing e.g. Morris, Maypole or Barn! Try your luck at the Welly Wanging, Tug o’War or Tombola, and enjoy some homemade cakes or cream teas. Sounds good eh!
Are you taking place in the London to Paris bike ride? If so, we wish you the very best of luck and salute you for your involvement! For those of you who are unaware of the charity fundraiser you could still take part in the cycle, however you’ll have to be pretty fit already as it starts on the 26th July and goes on for three days. Fundraisers will cycle for 60-90 miles a day stopping off at traditional hotels on the way.
On Saturday 19th May the streets of London will be filled with hundreds of Moonwalkers wearing decorated bras raising money for breast cancer. The walkers will be taking part in the London Midnight Moonwalk that has raised millions of pounds for the charity over the last few years.
The Flora London Marathon is set to take place on Sunday 22nd April from 9am onwards and is expected to entice a record number of runners and spectators. Since the first marathon in 1981 over £200 million has been raised for world wide charities with over 75% running for a cause that has affected them or someone they know.
If you’re into stand up comedy and you fancy a night out then this could be your last chance to book tickets for Funny Women Stand Up on Thursday March 8th. The venue is Hammersmith Palais on Shepherd’s Bush Road and there will be comedy acts from Jan Ravens, Jo Brand, Ayesha Hazarika, Rebbecca Carrington & Joe the Cello, Liz Carr, Suzy Bennett and more.
