There are a wide choice of public fireworks parties to attend around Guy Fawkes night, you don’t just have to chose the one nearest to you. One of the best events in London is Battersea Park fireworks.

Tickets are only £5 for adults and £1 for under 10s - which is cheaper than a lot of outside London events. The display takes place on Saturday the 3rd of November and it is expected that there will be an audience of 55,000 people. Gates open at 6, the massive bonfire will be lit at 7:30 and the award winning fireworks display starts at eight. The show boasts a laser light experience and music based on the theme of tantrums and tiaras.

Tonight’s preview evening allows a chance to discover wines from the Languedoc-Roussillon region and Islington’s Business Design center will be transformed into a Mediterranean setting. The red carpet evening will feature a barbeque of dishes from the region to complement the wine, tutored wine tasting sessions, talks and entertainment hosted by wine connoisseur Oz Clarke.

Sunday is promising an equally vibrant event with more food, wine tasting and tutoring from wine experts. Don’t miss this once a year experience!

I read a review of Sugar Reef in a magazine quite a while ago but I never got around to trying the venue. Recently, my friends and I were looking for a trendy place to eat and drink in London and after thinking back at places I had heard to be hip I remembered Sugar Reef.

We booked a table for a Thursday evening which was a great time to do dinner, as it wasn’t overly crowded, but busy enough with a complimenting jazz band. The décor is sleek and stylish, the service was lovely and the set menu was perfect. I recommend the fresh soup of the day with rustic bread followed by the sirloin steak which was delectable.

If you work in the city of London you probably walk through it everyday but take for granted the atmosphere and history of the buildings and parks around you. I know I do…..I used to get a real buzz out of coming to London and being surrounded by some of the most exciting sights in the whole world but I have lost that awe that I first felt walking through the streets.

Well, if you want to appreciate the history around you a bit more why not take part in a one of the guided city walks that are taking place this Halloween time. Not only are they a great way to learn about some of the most salacious details of what happened in London in the past but can be a hugely entertaining and original evening out. You even get a bit of exercise!

I found a great website called London Ghost Walk where you can book such a tour. The walks are given by historian and author Richard Jones and last for two hours. The tour will take you around haunted sites where Richard has had personal experience of ghostly goings on. He will recount his own tales as well as the experiences of physics and even scientists, many of which have been published in top selling books. You will visit London’s oldest hospital and ancient burial grounds. The evening takes place on Halloween night (October the 31st) so ghostly activity will be at its peak - who knows what you might encounter. Book here for tickets

This week London has been celebrating Spanish wine, music, food and culture. Events have been held in London’s top restaurants, bars and markets and appearances made by the best Spanish cuisine chefs and musicians in the city.

Tomorrow is the last day of the Taste of Spain event and new restaurant Camino are hosting the “Camino Tapathon”. This event promises to be a tappas extravaganza with wine expert, author and broadcaster John Radford. Learn about tappas from the master and taste as much wine and tappas as you can eat for only £20! An amazing price when you consider how much a meal at a tapas restuarant in london can add up to!

The nights are getting colder and misty and Halloween is on its way – theres no better way to cosy up your home around this time of year than adding a few glowing jack o lanterns around the place. These are must have accessories for any Halloween party whether it’s a grand scale monsters ball or just a quiet night in with a horror film.

If you have never carved a pumpkin before get straight down to Selfridges Food Hall on Saturday the 27th or Sunday the 28th of October where there will be demonstrations of how to create the most elaborate designs whilst staying safe and clean. You can watch the pumpkin artists for hours and then get carried away buying the tools of the pros.

If you have kids take them along and let them get inspired! There will also be plenty of other children’s entertainment around the store such as magicians, witches and Halloween craft stands, where kids can have a go at making scary masks. All events take place on both Saturday and Sunday the weekend before Halloween.

After hearing many good reviews about the dining experience in The Rainforest Café, London, I decided to check it out myself.

The largest restaurant in London was decorated top to toe in tropical plants and vines. Mechanical gorillas and elephants moved and made noise throughout the evening while tropical fish swam in a fish tank all setting relaxing surroundings. Water falls are spread around the restaurant to emphasise the rain forest theme and during your meal you’ll hear thunder and see lightning.

The food was good, the savage minute steak and major mojo bones were extremely tasty and well recommended. Perhaps a little over priced but the experience made up for this. The drink selection was good with a wide variety of many wines, champagnes, cocktails, juices and sodas and the deserts were as good as they looked.

Simon woodruff the entrepreneur behind Yo Sushi has brought another great Japanese idea to the UK. Yotel is the latest space saving hotel. The concept has been copied from the Japanese pod hotels that have been popping up all over Tokyo in recent years. The bijou hotels feature tiny rooms with just a bed and a tiny area of floor space – standard rooms feature a single bed which is apparently large enough for a cosy two and premium rooms offer a double bed and couch. Storage is built into walls but you do get your own wet room with monsoon shower!

At the moment the only Yotels in the UK are located at Gatwick and Heathrow airports. The Yotel is aimed at allowing tired passengers to get some sleep while they wait for their delayed planes. For this reason rooms can be booked for as little as four hours at a time. There are plans to open a hotel in London’s west end soon. I’m sure they’ll become a perfect retreat from those who have stayed out passed the last train….although I somehow doubt they’ll be letting out rooms for four hours only in that part of town! Standard pods at Heathrow and Gatwick cost 25 pounds for four hours and are charged per hour after that at prices from £5 per hour – make sure you have a good alarm clock with you when you stay!

Embassy bar and restaurant is one of the hottest night spots in London, a place to see and be seen. Perfectly located in the centre of Mayfair, Embassy is spread out over three floors. The top floor is the restaurant which is all you expect a posh place to be, seating well spread out and waiters eager to meet your every need, the floor to ceiling windows give it a more exclusive feel and you are welcome to dine alfresco in the summer months. On the lower level of this floor there is a pre bar where you could also eat in a more relaxed atmosphere, perfect for those pre-club drinks or a small bite to eat.

The members bar is downstairs along with the VIP room which is situated between the top and bottom floors. The bar and club area is stylish, modern, opulent but a little bit cosy. The food and drinks are pricey and be prepared to order your main meat and vegetables or chips separately, the steak is absolutely worth it and the cocktails are refreshing.

It’s that time of year again when London becomes even more hectic as the British Film Institutes film festival comes to town. From the 17th of October you can book tickets to watch selected films that premier at the festival until the 1st of November. Not only will there be guaranteed celebrity guests but Britain’s best talent will be unveiled.

Watch the premier of Brad Pitt’s starring role in Andrew Dominik’s new film ‘The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford’ or perhaps Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep are more to your taste in Robert Redford’s ‘Lions for Lambs’. All stars are expected to attend but for film fanatics there are many other films to choose from such as David Cronenburg ‘Eastern Promises’ or Richard Attenborough’s ‘Closing the Ring’. You’re bound to find a film that suits your interests.
